(my) Home Sweet Home

It's been a big weekend around here. After months of searching and waiting, I have finally moved into the most perfect little house.

It's perfect for me because it isn't perfect. It's an old house with creaking hardwood floors and all the charm I've ever hoped for in a home. God's provision for me has been clearly evident in the story of how this house and I came to be. But that's a story for another day.

Saturday morning was beautiful and I had all my stuff moved in by noon. Friends stopped by to help unpack and even weeded my raised gardens (I have gardens!). Mallory, who will be my new roommate in a few weeks, spent the afternoon with me. But that evening it was just me, standing in the kitchen unpacking boxes, and I couldn't stop smiling.

On Sunday, I stayed home from church and had a lazy morning unpacking more stuff. The weather had turned cold and rainy, but Mallory and Erin both stopped by after church. While they were over, it unexpectedly started sleeting heavily and wasn't letting up. Within an hour, the ground was covered, so they left before the roads got bad.

I only had two items in my refrigerator; a bottle of wine and a leftover pizza. Classy, I know. So I decided to make a run to the grocery store because there's no way I could be snowed in without coffee. When I got to Brookshires, the electricity was out, but they were still letting people shop. It was pitch black and I'd left my phone at home, so an employee walked me around the store with a flashlight. He was escorting me and I had to make conversation and to be honest, I couldn't really handle that kind of shopping pressure, so I grabbed coffee and left. That was a bizarre experience, but I'm so glad I got my coffee because Monday did turn out to be a snow day.

When I woke up Monday morning, my new neighborhood was blanketed in white. The streets and rooftops had transformed to a winter wonderland on this first weekend of March. Snow is so rare around here that everything shuts down and it kind of feels like Christmas, but with less chaos. I spent the day at home watching movies and unpacking. It was such a glorious, unexpected little holiday and a sweet welcoming present to my new home.

To say I'm thankful for this house feels like such an understatement. I have a vision for every room and can't wait to get to work.

I finally have a place to dwell that feels like a home. And I hope it feels like a home to everyone who walks through the doors.

I can feel it. There are special memories to be made here.
